Florida is one of those bucket list spots for both kids and adults who are looking to experience some of the best weather, beaches, and activities. If you’ve never visited the Sunshine State before, it’s certainly a place that will be memorable and most of all FUN. Here are my top four must-sees for first-time visitors to Florida:
Disney World truly lives up to its “happiest place on earth” name and is a magical experience for kids and adults alike. This whopping 30,000-acre park is divided into themed areas such as The Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, Epcot, Hollywood Studios, and Typhoon Lagoon Water Park. With so much ground to cover, it’s best to plan ahead and make list of your must-sees and must-dos, which will give you a better idea of how many days you want to dedicate to exploring the park. As a note, during my first visit to Disney World, I made the rookie mistake of only giving myself one day, and it just wasn’t enough time to do all that I wanted to do.
Florida is well-known for its perfect beaches and vibrant nightlife, especially in Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and Key West. If you’re looking to experience something a little different than a typical day on the beach or a night at a club, a party boat tour might just be the ticket for you. With over 1,300 miles of coastline, boat tours will give you a fun and different perspective of Florida. One of the more unique party boat experiences is with Lagerhead Cycleboats, which operates out of three major cities in Florida. The price for a tour starts at a reasonable $45/head and can be booked for a day or sunset tour. Note: it’s BYOB, so come prepared with your favorite drink. Here’s the kicker: this boat is powered by the passengers. Each guest has a set of pedals at their seat, which turn the paddle on the boat. Drinks, exercise, and great views of the coastline is a recipe for one memorable experience.
One the greatest things about Florida is the unique landscape. Growing up the in Pacific Northwest, I was completely enamored with the Floridian wetlands – it was so different than anything else I’ve ever experienced. The Everglades National Park, one of North America’s seven wonders, is one of the most popular destinations and well worth the trip. One of the best ways to experience the Everglades is by airboat. You’ll cruise through the shallow waters and maybe even spot an alligator or two.

Like so many kids, I once dreamed of becoming an astronaut. Although life took me in a different direction, space travel and the world beyond our planet Earth still fascinates me. A vacation to Florida isn’t complete without a visit to the Kennedy Space Center. Located about 45 minutes outside of Orlando in Cape Canaveral, The Kennedy Space Center is not only a place where you can learn about the rich history of space travel and exploration; you can also fully immerse yourself in adventures such as the Astronaut Training Simulator and the Space Launch Experience. There’s plenty to see and do here, so make sure you clear the itinerary for the day.
There is so much to see, do, and experience in Florida, which is the very reason why it’s such a popular destination – and a repeat destination for many tourists. The four experiences listed above will give you the best “taste” of what the Sunshine State has to offer.
